The Bealtaine Festival, Ireland’s national celebration of the arts and creativity as we age, will be celebrated throughout the month of May in Donegal.  Age & Opportunity’s Bealtaine 2022 festival, will celebrate In(ter)dependence as its theme and a welcome return to live in-person events. 

 

The festival, now in its 25th Year, will be officially launched on Sunday 1st May at 5pm by Councillor Jack Murray, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council at the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC).  And following the official launch the Donegal Bealtaine festival will be kicked off at 6pm with a special free concert featuring Irish country music legend Brendan Quinn & Band and supported by Americana songsmith Dean Maywood.  The concert will be streamed live on www.regionalculturalcentre.com to mark the beginning of the month-long festivities.

 

When speaking about Bealtaine, festival co-ordinator Ciara Cunnane said “We are delighted to be able to welcome back everyone to live in-person events.  Donegal County Council’s Cultural Division have planned various events throughout the month ranging from crafts, cookery, music, theatre, talks and walks! ‘.  Featured events planned include The Eat Well To Live Well cookery demo with Pauline Sugrue, author visits from RTE’s Carole Coleman & Sally Hanan, The National Archives of Ireland 1921 Treaty Exhibition at Donegal County Museum and theatre featuring Conal Gallen in My Wife, Her Cat and Other Stuff to name but a few!

Déanfar an Fhéile Bealtaine, ceiliúradh ar na healaíona agus ar an chruthaitheacht in Éirinn agus muid ag dul in aois, a cheiliúradh i rith mhí na Bealtaine i nDún na nGall. Déanfaidh féile Bealtaine 2022 de chuid Age & Opportunity, ceiliúradh ar (idir) spleáchas mar théama agus fháilte mhór roimh an philleadh ar imeachtaí pearsanta ar an láthair.

 

Déanfaidh an Comhairleoir Jack Murray, Cathaoirleach Chomhairle Contae Dhún na nGall, an fhéile, ina 25ú  bliain ar an fhód, a sheoladh go hoifigiúil ag an Ionad Cultúrtha Réigiúnach (RCC) ar an Domhnach 1úBealtaine ag 5i.n. Agus i ndiaidh an tseolta oifigiúil, cuirfear tús le féile Bealtaine i nDún na nGall ag 6i.n. le coirm cheoil speisialta saor in aisce leis an laoch ceol tíre Éireannach Brendan Quinn & Band agus le tacaíocht ón ghabha ceoil Meiriceánach Dean Maywood. Déanfar an choirm cheoil a shruthú beo ar www.regionalculturalcentre.com le tús a chur leis an fhéile a mhairfeas mí.

 

Agus ag caint dí faoin Fhéile Bealtaine, dúirt comhordaitheoir na féile, Ciara Cunnane, “Tá lúcháir orainn a bheith in ann fáilte a chur roimh chách chuig imeachtaí beo ar an láthair. Tá imeachtaí éagsúla beartaithe ag Rannán Cultúrtha Chomhairle Contae Dhún na nGall i rith na míosa, idir cheird, chócaireacht, cheol, dhrámaíocht, chainteanna agus shiúlóidí!”. I measc na n-imeachtaí atá beartaithe, tá Taispeántas Cócaireachta Eat Well To Live Well le Pauline Sugrue, cuairteanna údair ó Carole Coleman & Sally Hanan de chuid RTÉ, Taispeántas Conartha 1921 de chuid Chartlann Náisiúnta na hÉireann ag Músaem Contae Dhún na nGall agus drámaíocht le Conal Gallen i My Wife, Her Cat agus Other Stuff gan ach cuid acu a lua!
