The Seven Sisters Skyline Mountain Running event will take place in Dún Lúiche (Dunlewey) this Saturday 21 May and is the first time a race of this kind has gained World Cup status in Ireland.

Welcoming this event to Donegal Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr. Jack Murray acknowledged the tremendous work done by Excel Sports in hosting this event and in securing this World Cup status.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. Jack Murrary

“It is great to get a World Cup Silver Label event to Donegal and the event looks set to bring some very exciting racing to Donegal.  We hope that this event will lead to Donegal becoming world renowned for mountain running and I am delighted that Donegal County Council is supporting this event.”

Organised by Donegal company Excel Sports this endurance race includes both a 30km and 55km route. There was great excitement earlier this year when it was announced by the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) that the 30km event would be a World Cup Event.

The WMRA have included the Donegal event as the first race of the 2022 World Cup calendar, one of 17 races around the world on the WMRA World Cup Calendar 2022. There are only 5 World Cup Silver Label races held in 5 countries - Peru, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Portugal, and here, Donegal Ireland.

The Seven Sisters Skyline Mountain Running event takes in the 7 peaks from Muckish to Errigal, providing competitors from around the world with challenging climbs and terrain, as well as stunning vistas.

The World Cup status firmly cements the Donegal race into the premium event category for the running industry and community. The opportunity to win a World Cup race will make the event even more competitive, which is limited to 500 participants. This remote, Gaeltacht area of Donegal will be host to many high-profile runners, along with those there for the sheer buzz and challenge.
