Prizes were awarded to three of the Municipal Districts best kept housing estates at the recent meeting of the Glenties Municipal District.  Cathaoirleach of the Glenties MD, Cllr John Seamais O’Fearraigh announced the winners with Ballina, Falcarragh being announced as winner of the Large Estate category, Ard McGill, Glenties winner of the Medium Estate category and An tArdán Rua, Loughanure receiving the award for the best Small Estate.

 

The elected members of Glenties Municipal District congratulated all the residents who had taken part in this year’s competition and paid tribute to their hard work and dedication in keeping their housing estates in tip top shape. 

 

Donegal County Council looks forward to continuing to work with residents and acknowledges the great support that they have received from residents and in particular the representatives of the residents associations. 

 

Each year the Council runs a competition for the Best Kept Council Housing Schemes and the competition is run on a Municipal District basis.  Prizes are awarded in the following categories according to merit:

 

Schemes of 20  houses or less

Schemes of  between 21 and 50 houses

Schemes of 51 houses or more

 

The adjudication of entries takes place during the summer period and marks are awarded under the following headings:

 

1.            Effort involved.

2.            Absence of litter.

3.            Planting trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens.

4.            Colour and colour harmony.

5.            Condition of houses in the Scheme

6.            Absence of unsightly objects.

7.            Special factors.

 

The results for the Municipal District of Glenties for 2018 are:

 

Winner of Large Estate:

Eastát Beal an Atha (Ballina), An Falcarrach represented by Caitín UÍ Laifearaigh from the Residents Association

 

Winner of Medium Estate:

Ard McGill, Glenties and the representatives from the Residents Association were Mary Thompson, Anthony Thompson and Martin Joyce

 

Winner of the Small Estate:

An tArdán Rua, Loughanure represented by Michelle Ní Bhaoill from the Residents Association.
