19/06/20 €167,553 Leader Funding approved for 5 new projects

Donegal’s Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) has this week approved funding of €167,553 for 5 new projects under the LEADER Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.

The projects approved at this week’s LCDC meeting include the development of local community festivals, provision of digital media training courses and facilities, and the development of Irish traditional music training, as well as the construction of community sporting facilities.

The LCDC also agreed to join with 5 other border counties in a LEADER Co-operation Project valued at €174,223 which will provide support to local communities in the county to help them develop the skills and build the capacity to improve the quality of life in their local areas.

Commending the local community groups and organisations promoting the projects, Cllr Martin McDermott, Chairperson of Donegal LCDC stated that the health of our local communities can be seen in the progressive and dynamic work being done to improve the quality of life of our towns and villages by the members of the communities themselves. This “bottom up” approach to sustaining communities in rural Donegal is the essence of what the LEADER programme is about. He urged local community groups and businesses to continue to engage with the local development companies in the county to avail of the LEADER programme to build on the achievements of the programme to date.
