09/11/2020 - Be Winter Ready Campaign

The Government has now launched the 10th annual Be Winter Ready campaign.  The campaign was jointly launched by Minister for Defence, Mr. Simon Coveney T.D. and Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport and Logistics, Ms. Hildegarde Naughton T.D.

The Be Winter Ready campaign, which is now in its tenth year, is designed to raise the public’s awareness about the particular challenges that winter season can bring about. The main message of the campaign remains a simple one, “be prepared, stay safe and know where to find help if you need it”.

The Be Winter Ready campaign provides crucial information for the public to ensure preparedness for the winter months. People are asked to visit winterready.ie or to follow the conversation on Facebook or Twitter at #BeWinterReady for more information.

Chief Executive of Donegal County Council, John G. McLaughlin commented;

“The Be Winter Ready campaign is a fantastic resource for people to ensure that they are well prepared to face the challenges that the coming winter months may bring. It offers targeted advice for a whole range of sectors within our community including for the home, in business, on the farm, for schools and for old and vulnerable people - to name but a few.

I would encourage everyone to read the literature available and by doing so will help ensure that we all get safely through the winter months ahead.

I know people are tired about hearing the word COVID-19, but it is important this winter, more than ever, to look out for those in our community who may be alone or vulnerable. You might not be able to visit them directly but you can put them in touch with the many supports available including the Council’s Community Call telephone number 1800 928 982”.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. Rena Donaghey noted;

"Over the last few years we have experienced some extreme weather events in County Donegal so it is very important that members of the public are prepared for all the eventualities that winter can bring - from cold weather to power outages to isolation. That is where the advice offered by the Be Winter Ready campaign is really useful and I would encourage everyone to read the literature and to pass on the advice to old or vulnerable people within their circle of contacts”.
