Donegal County Council (Comhairle Chonte Dhún na nGall) is the authority responsible for local government in the County of Donegal. It was established under the Local Government (Ireland) Act of 1898 which provided for the establishment of a system of local government in Ireland.
The first elections for Donegal County Council took place on 6th April 1899 and Donegal County Council first met as an elected body on 22nd April 1899 in the Grand Jury Room of the County Courthouse, Lifford.
