Waterworld Bundoran retains prestigious NQS “Outstanding” award

For the second year in a row, Waterworld Bundoran has been awarded the highest accolade of  “Outstanding” at the Ireland Active 2025 National Quality Standard Awards – the only facility in Donegal to be awarded the feat.

The prestigious awards recognize excellence and commitment to quality within Ireland’s leisure, health, and fitness industry honouring leisure, health, and fitness facilities across the country that uphold the highest standards of service, safety, and community engagement.

Accepting the award on behalf of the facility at the recent awards ceremony held at the Killashee Hotel in Naas, County Kildare, General Manager of Waterworld Aine Temple said ‘this is such an honour for Waterworld, especially the second year in a row. Without our hardworking and dedicated staff doing what they do, day in and day out, we would not be where we are now. I would like to thank each and every member of the team for another great season and we look forward to welcoming guests again in 2025.’

Karl Dunne, CEO of Ireland Active: “The NQS Awards are a celebration of excellence in Ireland’s leisure, health, and fitness industry. These awards recognize the commitment to quality and community impact that makes our industry vibrant and essential. Congratulations to all our winners, whose dedication enhances the lives of communities across Ireland.”

Chair of Waterworld Bundoran Cllr Michael McMahon added his congratulations saying ‘we are delighted once again for the success of Waterworld in the Ireland Active NQS Awards. I’d like to pay tribute to Aine and her team who have once again achieved this accolade – a true example of hard work and dedication to the highest standards right throughout the busy summer season in Bundoran.’

Success of bespoke organic compost in treatment of Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed (Reynoutia japonica) is an herbaceous perennial native to East Asia. Commonly found on volcanic slopes, its extensive root system allows it to quickly reemerge following eruptions, producing large amounts of nitrogen-rich leaves and carbon-heavy stems. As these decompose, they contribute to new soil formation. Knotweed can grow in a variety of soil types, habitats, and pH conditions but tends to favour disturbed, low diversity, bacterially dominated soils with little organic matter and high light exposure.
