Launch of “Good Neighbours” Donegal Municipal District PEACEPLUS Project

The “Good Neighbours” Donegal Municipal District PEACEPLUS Project was officially launched at the Termon Complex in Pettigo on Tuesday 24th June 2025. This initiative aims to deliver a comprehensive community engagement and capacity-building programme in the twin villages of Pettigo in County Donegal and Tullyhommon in County Fermanagh, engaging with over 110 participants.
This project falls under the Theme 2 ‘Thriving and Peaceful Communities’ , which is part of Donegal’s PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan. The plan is providing €7,635,396.00 in funding to support the delivery of 32 peacebuilding projects over the next two years, from 2025 to 2027.
Speaking at the launch, Cathaoirleach Niamh Kennedy said “The Good Neighbours Peace Programme stands as a powerful symbol of what’s possible when communities unite across communities and borders. We're not just launching a programme today; we're paving the way for community-led regeneration, fostering peaceful and inclusive neighbourhoods, and celebrating all cultural identities. This initiative is about collaboration, understanding, and laying the foundations for connection and shared a purpose."
Over the next two years, this inspiring programme delivered by ADoPT (Association for the Development of Pettigo & Tullyhommon) will focus on grassroots engagement.
Chairman Daniel McCrory remarked, “We are excited to collaborate with our diverse community, engaging with individuals from both sides of the border, to build meaningful and lasting friendships through our wide range of planned activities.”
As part of the Good Neighbours Project, ADoPT will work closely with the Senior Citizens Pettigo Luncheon Group, and during the Launch Event, one of its members, Jimmy Baird, delighted the attendees by reciting two beautiful poems, notably ‘Somebody’s Mother’ and ‘I’m Fine’.
