Donegal County Council, the Donegal Road Safety Working Group, and Finn Harps Football Club have announced the winners of the 2025 Primary School Road Safety Art Competition. This year’s theme, “Our Roads, Our Safety”, inspired over 900 entries from primary school students across County Donegal.

The overall winning artwork, submitted by Martyna Stefanska, Scoil Mhuire, Pettigo will be featured as advertising signage promoting road safety at Finn Park. Additionally, the artwork will be displayed at Kernan’s Supermarkets and in I-motors showrooms in Drumkeen/Inishowen. As part of their prize, the winning student received a tablet and an art hamper, while their school was awarded training equipment and a coaching session with Finn Harps F.C. coaches.

Pamela Smullen, Donegal County Council, commended the young artists and their schools for their participation: “This year’s competition saw fantastic engagement from students, the artwork delivering strong messages about wearing seatbelts, wearing helmets when cycling and using a light or hi visibility clothing when walking. This initiative provides a valuable platform to discuss road safety in classrooms across the county and raises awareness of how we can all stay safe on our roads.  By introducing these key messages early, we can help shape lifelong habits. I would like to thank all the students who took part, the teachers and schools for supporting this important road safety initiative and to congratulate the winners.”

Kevin McHugh, Head of Finn Harps Academy stated, “Finn Harps are delighted with the response, this year saw an increase in the number of entries and competition continues to grow. He expressed Finn Harps. F.C. enthusiasm for the partnership in working alongside the Donegal Road Safety Working Group and Donegal County Council to promote road safety awareness. It is brilliant to see students contributing to road safety education through their artwork.”
