Go Visit Donegal on Friday (9th May 2025) launched a new 28 page brochure highlighting each of the county’s golf courses, both links and parkland, which provide unrivalled experiences for both the most veteran and casual of golfers from both near and far.

The launch event took place at Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh in front of a packed room of golf club representatives, golf media and tour operators. The official launch was performed by Minister of State with special responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy at the Department of Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport, Charlie McConalogue TD.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Niamh Kennedy spoke at the launch and said “the word is out that golf in Donegal is not so secret anymore. Through this brochure we want to encourage golfers who may not have tried Donegal to avail of the courses and top-class facilities available – each one as scenic and spectacular as the next.

Chief Executive of Donegal County Council and Chair of Donegal Tourism CLG John G McLaughlin spoke about the economic benefit to the county that golf tourism brings while reiterating that spend by golfers in the county doesn’t just support the golf clubs, but also accommodation, restaurants, attractions and even down to the local shop.

Since the hosting of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in 2018 at Ballyliffin, the spotlight has come on the county and the many “hidden gems” of golf courses that exist not only along the Wild Atlantic Way coastline but also inland in the picturesque parkland courses which are dotted throughout Donegal.

Minister of State Charlie McConalogue in officially launching the brochure encouraged all stakeholders to share the brochure far and wide through their networks and urged businesses to continue working together collaboratively to make Donegal the golf destination of choice for visitors from across the globe. He added “This brochure is not just a publication; it’s an invitation to experience the very best of Irish golf in a place that stays with you long after your round is over.”

A panel discussion, chaired by Sean Quinn of Highland Radio also took place at the event which saw Ballyliffin Golf Club’s John Farren, Donegal Golf Club’s Lynn McCool and Harvey’s Point’s Sheila Russell discuss the current state of golf in the county, the challenges and also the opportunities that exist as an essential tourism driver for years to come.

The new “Golf in Donegal” brochure is available to download now from https://www.govisitdonegal.com/golf and will also be available across the county’s golf clubs and tourist offices.

"The word is out that golf in Donegal is not so secret anymore. Through this brochure we want to encourage golfers who may not have tried Donegal to avail of the courses and top-class facilities available – each one as scenic and spectacular as the next."
