Letterkenny Town Active Travel Projects – R229 Kilmacrennan Road

ACS Civils Ltd. has been appointed as the main contractor for the R229 Kilmacrennan Active Travel Project in Letterkenny Town with works due to commence on site at the end of September 2025 and due to complete by end of September 2026.

The works are located between the Hospital Roundabout and Knocknamona Roundabout including a section that extends west from Knocknamona Roundabout to the Optum Business Park entrance. A traffic management system will be in place during the works with two-way traffic flow maintained daily between 7am and 7pm, save for exceptional circumstances and construction requirements. The project shall enhance accessibility and promote the 10-minute active travel journey from residential areas to key amenities/destinations within Letterkenny Town, through the provision of improved pedestrian facilities and a new two-way cycle facility to the west side of the carriageway.   Bus stops will be incorporated into the scheme to support public transport.

‘Be Bright, Be Seen, Be Safe’ - Everyone is urged to stay visible on the roads this Winter

Donegal County Council and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group are calling on everyone to support the road safety campaign ‘Be Bright, Be Seen, Be Safe’ by wearing fluorescent or reflective clothing when walking, running or cycling this winter and for drivers to use dipped headlights during the day to improve visibility.

Over 2500 Transition year and 5th year students from schools across Donegal attended the Donegal County Council AXA Roadsafe Roadshow on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th October in the Aura Centre, Letterkenny.
