Donegal County Council, Donegal Road Safety Working Group and Finn Harps Football Club have once again teamed up to promote road safety with the Primary School Road Safety Art Competition.

Primary school students across Donegal are invited to help raise awareness about road safety through taking part in the competition.

This initiative challenges students to create an artwork with a road safety slogan centered on this year’s theme, “Crossing the Road Safely”, promoting the importance of remaining alert, visible and making safe choices.

At the launch of the competition at St. Mary’s National School Castlefinn, Pamela Smullen, Donegal County Council stated “We are excited to launch the 2026 Primary School Road Safety Art Competition, giving students across the county the chance to use their creativity to help spread the important message about road safety. This competition aims to raise awareness and encourage good road safety habits at an early age. Donegal County Council and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group appreciate the efforts from schools across the county who take part and play a vital role in promoting road safety. We thank Finn Harps for their continued support of the competition and in promoting greater awareness of staying safe on the roads.”

Students are invited to submit entries to be in with a chance of winning fantastic individual prizes, as well as a special prize for the school of the overall winner, making this a competition that benefits both students and their school.

Kevin Mc Hugh, 1st team manager, Finn Harps FC said, "Everyone at the Academy and Football Club are very proud to be associated with this fantastic competition and work alongside the Donegal Road Safety Working Group.

At our Academy we are introducing good lifestyle habits on a weekly basis at a young age, and there is no greater and more important habit than road-safety awareness in the current climate.
The theme this year, 'Crossing the Road Safely' fits right in for the thousands and thousands of kids around the county at school, doing sporting activities and in general life who need to be made aware of the dangers when crossing or near a road"

The winning road safety artwork will be displayed by Finn Harps Football Club on their grounds and online platforms, and by Kernans in their shops. The class of the overall winning entry will receive training equipment and a coaching session with Finn Harps coaches.

The competition is open for entries until Wednesday, 4th March 2026. For more information see www.donegalcoco.ie

Entries should be sent to: Road Safety Art Competition, Donegal County Council, The Diamond, Lifford, Co. Donegal. F93 Y622
