In a vibrant show of solidarity and celebration, the Polestar Roundabout at the Port Bridge Roundabout in Letterkenny will be illuminated in blue and pink nightly from Thursday 14th to Monday 18th August for the Letterkenny Pride Festival.  The Letterkenny Public Service Centre will also proudly raise the Progress Pride Flag, celebrating diversity, inclusion and our ongoing commitment to equality for all.

A new lighting system that was recently unveiled at the iconic Polestar Art Monument, will have a light display symbolising support for equality and acceptance. The colours blue and pink reflect the hues of the Progress Pride Flag, which represents the LGBTQ+ community.

Now in its third year, Letterkenny Pride is Donegal’s largest LGBTQ+ Pride festival, returning this August for a three-day celebration of inclusion, vibrant celebration and community spirit. Led by Letterkenny Pride Festival Committee, this initiative aims to promote inclusivity, diversity and LGBTQ+ visibility in the community.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District shared "Lighting up the Polestar Roundabout and raising the Progress Pride Flag is a powerful way to show that Letterkenny is a welcoming and inclusive town, sending a message of support to our LGBTQ+ community members and visitors during Pride celebrations. The illumination of the roundabout adds to the festive atmosphere, encouraging locals and visitors alike to join in the celebration."

The Letterkenny Pride Festival includes a family Fun Day at the An Grianán Theatre Plaza from 1pm on Saturday the 16th of August, featuring acts and arts, a live DJ, face painting, live performances of street theatre, followed by the parade from 3.30pm.

Bird Flu Update & Advice

As you are likely aware, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza HPAI (H5N1) or bird flu, is currently circulating in wild birds, especially in breeding seabirds around Ireland. There has been a marked increase in the number of reports of sick and dead wild birds to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) in recent days. DAFM has also received queries from various Local Authorities in regard to sick/dead birds and HPAI. This is likely due to the news of HPAI outbreaks in poultry holdings and in captive birds in recent weeks.
