Donegal County Council Celebrates a Standout Year for Culture in New 2025 Annual Review
Donegal County Council has launched its Culture Division Annual Review for 2025, showcasing a year of vibrant activity, record community participation and continued investment in the county’s rich cultural life—spanning libraries, arts, heritage, museum, archives, biodiversity and the Regional Cultural Centre.
Eamonn Brown, Acting Director of Service, said the Review reflects the vital role culture plays in strengthening communities across Donegal—bringing people together, supporting wellbeing and celebrating local identity.
“This Annual Review captures a year of strong delivery and meaningful engagement across all of our cultural services,” said Mr Brown. “From libraries and festivals to heritage, museums, archives, arts and biodiversity initiatives, culture has continued to connect communities, support wellbeing and celebrate identity right across the county.”
Donegal’s libraries welcomed more than 394,000 visits in 2025, underlining their role as friendly, accessible community hubs for learning, creativity and connection. Flagship initiatives such as Creative Ireland, Cruinniú na nÓg, Bealtaine and Wainfest brought thousands of people of all ages into a packed calendar of free, inclusive events and experiences.
The Review also highlights sustained investment in professional artists, heritage conservation, archive digitisation, biodiversity action and cultural infrastructure—delivered through strong collaboration with community groups, cross-border stakeholders and national partners.
“Above all, what stands out is the dedication and professionalism of our Culture Division staff and partners,” Mr Brown added. “Their work helps ensure culture in Donegal remains open to everyone—accessible, inclusive and part of everyday community life.”
