Polish Ambassador visit to Donegal County Council Ireland EU Presidency 2026

From 1 July to 31 December 2026, Ireland will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), a central leadership role at the heart of EU decision-making. For six months, Ireland will guide negotiations, broker agreement between Member States, and help deliver EU laws and policies that affect the daily lives of more than 450 million people.

As part of Ireland’s EU Presidency, each county in the Republic of Ireland will be paired with an EU Member State for the duration of the Presidency, creating opportunities to build lasting local links across Europe and strengthen community connections.

Donegal has been paired with Poland for the duration of the Presidency.  

In preparation for this pairing, representatives from Donegal County Council, Cathaoirleach Paul Canning, John G McLaughin, Chief Executive, Richard Gibson, Director of Finance, Corporate Services and Information Systems, and staff welcomed the Polish Delegation to Donegal; Artur Michalski, Minister Plenipotentiary, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in Ireland, Piotr Erenfeicht, Minister-Counsellor, Head of the Political and Economic Section and Agnieszka Skolimowska, Counsellor, Head of the Public and Cultural Diplomacy Section.

The parties discussed the aims of the partnership which are to strengthen cultural, business and community links between the partners. It is proposed to incorporate a wide range of public events and conversations that can achieve these objectives over the duration of the partnership.

Both parties look forward to the creation of a successful lasting partnership that can benefit both regions.

Her exceptional contributions to music and culture, both at home in Donegal and across the world, have made a lasting impact. Mayor’s Reception in honour of Charlie Grant

Members of the Letterkenny / Milford Municipal District hosted a Mayor’s Reception at the Public Services Centre, Letterkenny, to honour Charlie Grant for 45 years of dedicated service with the Letterkenny Tidy Towns Committee. The event recognised Charlie Grant’s outstanding contribution to the community and the vital role of volunteers in supporting Tidy Towns over the years
