The County Donegal Development Plan, 2018-2024 was formally made by the Elected Members of Donegal County Council on 9th May, 2018 and has effect from 5th June 2018 for a period of 6 years until 2024.

By Order made on the 5th day of November, 2018, in proceedings bearing Record Number 2018/533JR between Planree Limited, Applicant and Donegal County Council, Respondent, certain provisions of the County Donegal Development Plan 2018-2024, being Section 6.5(c) and (f) of the Wind Energy standards at Part B: Appendix 3, Development Guidelines and Technical Standards and Map 8.2.1 as contained in the County Donegal Development Plan 2018-2024 as published were ordered to be deleted and/or removed from the County Donegal Development Plan 2018-2024. The Development Plan should be read in light of the Order in question pending any possible future variation of same.

Background
The purpose of the County Donegal Development Plan 2018-2024 is to set out a land use planning policy framework to guide the way in which County Donegal will be developed into the future. The Plan will be a material consideration in making decisions on planning applications.
It is the first consolidated Plan for the entire functional area of Donegal County Council, including the former Town Council areas of Letterkenny, Buncrana and Bundoran. In this regard, the County Donegal Development Plan, 2018-2024 supersedes not just the County Donegal Development Plan, 2012-2018 (As Varied) but also the following documents:
Letterkenny and Environs Development Plan 2009-2015(As Varied);
The Buncrana and Environs Development Plan 2014-2020; and
The Bundoran and Environs Development Plan 2009-2015 (As Varied)
The County Donegal Development Plan 2018-2024 and Environmental Report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Planning and Development Acts 2000 (As Amended), and the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations 2004 and the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) (Amendment) Regulations 2011.
