Latest Update July 2024
On the 16th of May 2024 the Elected Members of Donegal County Council formally made the County Donegal Development Plan 2024-2030.
However, on the 26th of June 2024 the Minister of Housing, Local Government and Heritage issued a Draft Ministerial Direction under Section 31 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (As Amended) concerning certain objectives, policies, and land use zonings within the Development Plan (including within the Buncrana and Ballybofey/Stranorlar Area Plans).
On the 26th of June 2024 the County Development Plan 2024-2030 came into effect except those parts of the plan affected by the Draft Ministerial Direction.
A public consultation on the Draft Ministerial Direction shall take place between Friday 5th July and Thursday 18th July (4:30pm) inclusive during which the public can make written submissions. See here
Update 16th May 2024: Plan Adopted
At a Special Council Meeting held the 16th of May 2024 the Elected Members adopted the Donegal County Development Plan 2024-2030.
The Plan will come into effect on 26th June 2024 (ie. 6 weeks after it is made) except for any parts of the plan which may subsequently be subject to a Draft Ministerial Direction.

The Council published Proposed Material Alterations/Changes to the Draft County Donegal Development Plan 2024-2030 for public consultation from Friday 8th March to Friday 5th April 2024. The Council would like to thank all those who made submissions on the Proposed Material Alterations/Changes during the public consultation.
The Council’s Executive is now preparing a Chief Executive’s report listing the persons/bodies who made submissions, and summarizing and giving the response of the Chief Executive to the issued raised. This report will be considered by the Elected Members before the plan is made.
A Special Council Meeting had been Scheduled for the 16th of May 2024 to allow the Elected Members to consider said report and make the Plan with or without any particular Proposed Material Alterations/Change or to modify same.
The Plan will come into effect 6 weeks after it is made except for any parts of the plan which may subsequently be subject to a Draft Ministerial Direction.
