The status Orange Wind Warning for Donegal reads; ”Storm Bram will bring very strong to gale force southerly winds with the strongest winds along the coast. Possible Impacts: Flooding of low-lying coastal areas, especially during high tide; Wave overtopping; Difficult travel conditions; Debris and loose objects displaced; Outdoor events impacted. Valid; 10:00 Tuesday 09/12/2025 to 18:00 Tuesday 09/12/2025

A Status Yellow Wind Warning is also in place for the entire county; Valid: 06:00 Tuesday 09/12/2025 to 21:00 Tuesday 09/12/2025

The public are also advised that  a Status Orange Storm Warning (Marine) is in place from Valentia to Erris Head to Malin Head with "Southwest to west winds will reach storm force 10. Valid: 12:00 Tuesday 09/12/2025 to 00:00 Wednesday 10/12/2025. A  Status Yellow Gale Warning is in place for all coasts of Ireland and on the Irish Sea with “southerly gales or strong gales veering westerly. Valid: 00:00 Tuesday 09/12/2025 to 00:00 Wednesday 10/12/2025”

After a week of persistent rain, many rivers are approaching bank full conditions and soils are waterlogged increasing runoff. Any additional rainfall is likely to result in river flooding. A period of high astronomical tides will coincide with high storm surge and onshore winds increasing coastal flood risk. Coastal flooding is likely, particularly during high tide times and in exposed low-lying areas. High tides will prevent river water from discharging to the sea, causing water to back up within the channel and significantly increasing the risk of upstream flooding along low-lying areas.

The public are asked to exercise caution during this period of inclement weather.

Stay informed and Plan ahead by;

  • Monitoring Met Éireann forecasts over the next 24 hrs – conditions may change quickly. Visit https://www.met.ie/ for the most up to date information. Information is also available across the Met Éireann App, social media platforms (@meteireann) and other news media sources.
  • Check Local Authorities websites and social media channels for information on road closures, flooding updates, and community alerts.
  • Allow for disruption during Tuesday morning commute.
  • Plan extra travel time and reduce speed.
  • Expect surface water, debris and poor visibility on Tuesday morning.
  • Check in with neighbours, older people or anyone who may need assistance in case conditions worsen.

Be aware of elevated flood risk and high winds

ESB Emergency Services can be contacted at 1800 372 999. The public can monitor www.PowerCheck.ie in regard to power restoration times.

  • Do not drive through floodwater – turn back and use another route.
  • Coastal areas may experience wave overtopping, storm surge, and tidal flooding, especially in low-lying locations.
  • Keep away from coastal edges, harbours, piers and low-lying promenades during high tide.
  • The Irish Coast Guard advice remains: “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry.”

During the duration of the storm conditions, Donegal County Council are urging road users to minimise their journeys and be aware of road conditions if travelling, particularly in relation to flooding and debris on the road.  Should you need to travel, extreme care should be exercised mindful of the conditions.  Please be aware of the potential of fallen trees, branches, electricity wires, debris on the roads and walk-ways and flooding in certain areas.

As a precaution, the Pier Car Park in Donegal Town will be closed between 7.00am to 10:00am tomorrow Tuesday (09.12.25) and 19:30pm to 23:00pm due to high tide and storm surge predicted.
