Notice Of Consideration Of A Scheme For The Abatement Of Rates In Respect Of Vacant Properties

Section 9 of the Local Government Rates and Other Matters Act 2019 makes specific provision that elected members of a local authority may make a scheme providing for the abatement of rates in respect of vacant properties, and that such a scheme shall be approved at the local authority budget meeting, concerning the local financial year to which the scheme shall apply.

Donegal County Council will consider a scheme providing for abatement of rates in respect of vacant properties, applying in the 2026 local financial year.

Donegal County Council welcomes written submissions from the public on this matter specifically covering the potential effects of a scheme providing for the abatement of rates in respect of vacant properties on businesses, individuals and on local authority services.

Submissions must be received by Friday 26th of September and be sent to:

Press Release on Response to Storm Amy

In response to Storm Amy Donegal County Council, in association with a number of community partners, arranged for the opening of a number of community based emergency hubs across the county and co-ordinated a response with Donegal Civil Defence to provide essential services. These response efforts are being stood down this evening.

While the worst of Storm Amy has passed, the fall out of the storm resulted in multiple trees down across the county, blocking or partially blocking our roads. Our crews are currently dealing with blockages on a priority basis. While the majority of our main roads are passable, the public are advised to be mindful of fallen debris and surface water posing difficulty driving conditions.

Motor Taxation 9.15am to 12.15pm, and 1.15pm to 3pm (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

Cash Office 9am-12.30pm, and 1pm-4.00pm (Monday to Friday)

Other Services 9am-12.30pm, and 1pm-4.30pm (Monday to Friday)
