The Letterkenny Islamic Association Centre hosted the official launch of One Donegal Social Inclusion Week 2026, with the event being formally opened by Mayor of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Cllr. Speaking at of the event, Cllr Brogan praised the Centre’s role in promoting intercultural understanding. “Social Inclusion Week is about opening doors and building bridges. The Letterkenny Islamic Association Centre is a wonderful example of a community hub welcoming people of all backgrounds, and I am honoured to launch this important week here,” he said. “Diversity isn’t just about tolerance. It’s about strength. Different perspectives make better decisions, stronger communities, and a more resilient Donegal.”

Speaking for  Donegal County Council, Paddy Doherty, Divisional Manager of Community Development said “holding this opening event here is a conscious and deliberate statement: inclusion is not an abstract policy. It lives in places like this, in the connections we build, and in the respect, we show for one another. Social Inclusion Week is about reminding ourselves that a community is only as strong as its sense of belonging.”

Amir Gamil, a director of the Letterkenny Islamic Association added: “We believe that inclusion begins with understanding. Hosting this launch reflects our commitment to being a neighbour and a partner in making Letterkenny a place where everyone belongs.”

Events planned for Social Inclusion Week 2026 include, The Music Trail, International Music Sessions in Family Resource Centres across  Donegal, an experience of music & culture from around the world, Celebrating Women in the Community events, Baking Bread for Peace, Football for All, Public Consultation event on the LK Green Connect, Wellness Cafes across the County, Cultural Exchange Evening, Self-Care for the Soul wellness walk with ATU.
