Donegal Volunteers were recognised for their work during the pandemic at an event held in Jacksons Hotel, Ballybofey last Thursday evening. The event was streamed live from Dublin Castle, hosted by Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Joe O’Brien, and highlighted the unique contribution and value of volunteers to their local communities.
Earlier this year Minister O’Brien launched the Volunteer Ireland nomination web portal to accept nominations from community organisations of volunteers who went above and beyond to make sure no members of their community were left behind during the pandemic.
Minister O’Brien said: "Volunteers fulfil an extraordinary role. They show us that when times are hardest, the best of us show up, ready to help"
Speaking to the Donegal Volunteers Leas-Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Martin McDermott said “On behalf of the people of Donegal we are proud and honoured to have you among us and we thank you all. We are forever in your debt.”
