The residents of a Housing Scheme in Doneyloop celebrated their Estate’s 40th Anniversary on Saturday, 29th July, 2023 with an Official Naming Ceremony and a Family Fun Day.

The Doneyloop Estate had never been officially named since it’s construction in 1983 /84 but that all changed on the 29th July, 2023 with the estate officially named as:-

“St Columba’s Terrace / Ardán Naomh Colm Cille 1983”

40thAnniversary Celebration for Doneyloop Estate which included new plaque to mark the official naming of the Estate - “St Columba’s Terrace / Ardán Naomh Colm Cille 1983”

The official cutting of the ribbon was carried out by the oldest resident, Mr Brendan McGrath with local Priest Fr. Ciaran Hegarty officiating the Blessing.

Donegal County Council was represented by the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Councillor Martin Harley together with Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District, Councillor Patrick McGowan who both provided funding for the celebrations.

The estate consists of twelve houses and the majority of these houses still have their original residents who came together to organise this community event.    The Family Day consisted of a Barbecue, Fun Activities for the Children and Ice Cream for all, followed by music and dancing.

A great day in the life of this newly named Estate “ St. Columba’s Terrace” where all the Residents demonstrated how well they worked together to prepare for the occasion with meetings, clean ups, planting and communicating with Donegal County Council to agree the official name and the provision of a beautiful stone which now sits proudly at the entrance to the estate.

The residents are now looking to the future and this experience has provided a new lease of enthusiasm for the Estate and shows how volunteerism and partnership can work so well.
