Celebrating the art of music and sound in film, Sound! is presented by Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny in partnership with An Grianán Theatre.

This year’s highlights include special screenings of a series of choice celluloid classics, presented with live musical scores, including the silent classic The Passion Of Jan Of Arc (1928) with a new score composer Matthew Nolan and Charlie Chaplin’s comedic masterpiece The Kid (1972), with live accompaniment from Gemma O’Doherty of acclaimed folk duo Saint Sister.

Our Closing Presentation sees Belfast DJ Phil Kieran present The Strand Cinema live, an audio-visual spectacular celebrating the legendary Belfast venue, featuring live music from members of the Ulster Orchestra

Filmmaker Paul Duane and musician Ian Lynch (from Lankum) will be present to introduce a screening of their new folk horror movie All You Need Is Death, and participate in a workshop on creating the film’s atmospheric soundtrack.

The duo will also join celebrated author Sinead Gleeson to discuss her new novel Hagstone, and the mysterious sound that features in her acclaimed tale of art, spirituality and desire on a small Irish island.

Other screenings include the Oscar-winning animated film The Boy & The Heron, a family screening of the acclaimed new documentary Birdsong, complete with a workshop for budding ornithologists, and a special 40th anniversary presentation of Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, considered by many (us included) to be the greatest concert movie ever made.

Plus the late, great Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto’s stunning concert film Opus, a Star Wars sound effects workshop, and the return of local hero DJ Dano, who wraps it all up with Shindig House Band’s Movie Madness live AV show!
