13/02/24 Donegal Literature and Landscape Event

Literature Event

Buncrana Community Library will host a very special event called Donegal Literature and Landscape on Ireland Reads Day, Saturday 24th February at 3.00pm. Inspired by the Booker Prize win of Donegal author Paul Lynch, a host of the county’s most talented poets, novelists, artists, musicians, and historians will come together to discuss the way the unique and rugged landscape of Donegal has influenced their own work. Writers from William Allingham to Brian Friel have tapped into our richest resource, the hills, glens and coastline of the county to create great works of fiction, poetry and drama.

This event, which is funded by the Creative Ireland Programme, is an opportunity to celebrate Donegal as a place apart. A place that that has inspired and produced writers from the Four Masters and their annals to a Booker Prize winning author.

Although Paul Lynch cannot attend the event, this will be an opportunity to acknowledge his remarkable achievement of winning the Booker Prize for his novel Prophet Song in the company of other Donegal creatives.

PREASRÁITEAS

Beidh Leabharlann Phobail Bhun Cranncha ina ionad d’ócáid an-speisialta dar teideal Lá Litríochta agus Tírdhreacha Dhún na nGall ar Lá “Éire ag Léamh”, Dé Sathairn 24 Feabhra ar 3:00 i.n. Arna spreagadh ag an údar Paul Lynch as Dún na nGall a bhuaigh Duais Booker, tiocfaidh slua de na filí, na húrscéalaithe, na healaíontóirí agus na staraithe is cumasaí sa chontae le chéile chun an tionchar a bhí ag tírdhreach uathúil agus garbh Dhún na nGall ar a saothar féin a phlé. Tá scríbhneoirí ó William Allingham go Brian Friel tar éis leas a bhaint as ár n-acmhainn is saibhre, cnoic, gleannta agus cósta an chontae chun saothair iontacha ficsin, filíochta agus drámaíochta a chruthú.

Deis atá san imeacht seo, atá maoinithe ag Éire Ildánach, le ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar Dhún na nGall mar áit ar leith ann féin. Áit a spreag agus a chruthaigh scríbhneoirí ó na Ceithre Máistrí agus a gcuid annála go dtí údar a bhuaigh Duais Booker.

Cé nach féidir le Paul a bheith linn don ócáid, tabharfaidh sé deis dúinn aitheantas a thabhairt don éacht iontach atá déanta aige nuair a bhuaigh sé Duais Booker as a úrscéal Prophet Song i gcuideachta ealaíontóirí eile as Dún na nGall.

Déanfaidh roinnt díospóireachtaí painéil, a bheas á stiúradh ag Kathy Donaghy, scrúdú ar an dóigh a dtugann údair “Dún na nGall leo” isteach ina saothair scríofa féin. Beidh trí phainéal ar an lá – ‘Ag Scríobh Dhún na nGall’, ‘Dún na nGall ag Dul Chun Cinn’ agus ‘Ag Léiriú Dhún na nGall’. Mairfidh achan bpainéal 45 bomaite. Beidh ceol agus sóláistí idir na painéil. Is imeacht idirghníomhach a bhéas ann mar beidh deis ag lucht féachana ceisteanna a chur ar na healaíontóirí.

I measc na rannpháirtithe beidh Moya Cannon, Breandán Mac Suibhne, Angela Byrne, Laoighseach Ní Choistealbha, Garrett Carr, Kevin Doherty, Ros Harvey, Tim Stampton, Clodagh Warnock, Róisín McGrory, Alan Millar agus Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde linn.

Cuirfidh Scoil Cheoil Ceolán ó Bhun an Phobail ceol ar fáil don ócáid. Tá siompóisiam Litríochta agus Tírdhreacha Dhún na nGall saor in aisce agus oscailte d’achan duine ach moltar áit a chur in áirithe. Déan teagmháil le Leabharlann Phobail Bhun Cranncha ar 074 9361941 chun áit a chur in áirithe.
