National Monuments in County Donegal
National Monuments are monuments considered to be of national importance and archaeological merit, ranging in date from the Neolithic period to modern times that are in state ownership/care. A small proportion of our National Monuments are in state ownership with the remainder situated on privately-owned land. The National Monuments Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is responsible for the protection of our archaeological monuments under the National Monuments Acts (1930-2004).
